Mark Twain noted that ‘history doesn’t repeat itself, but it often rhymes’. Our economic situation today is not the same as it was in 1891, but neither is it a world apart. Is it possible that what Pope Leo XIII wrote in 1891 to the first Gilded Age has lessons for us in today's Gilded Age? It does and with insightful lessons for all of us.
